GRAPHIC ILLUSIONS COMICS BRINGS BACK THE DOUBLE FEATURE

OFFICIAL PRESS RELEASE

Washington, DC - 8 July 2010- Six months after the release of the critically praised title INTREPID, Graphic Illusions Comics (GIC) expands the landscape of its Second Wave Universe (SWU) with the release of Shonen Double Feature #1 (SDF) this July. To explain the context of the title within the SWU, series co-creator Jose Loeri has provided answers to what he calls 5 FREQUENTLY UN-ASKED QUESTIONS. Enjoy!

5 FREQUENTLY UN-ASKED QUESTIONS

1. WHY SHONEN DOUBLE FEATURE?

The SHONEN reference is an obvious homage to our Japanese brethren in the industry. Tim Reaper (series co-creator) and I are HUGE manga fans, and have been avid readers of books such as Naruto, One Piece, Bleach, Cross Game, and many others. That said, we cut our teeth on American comics and still read them today. In that sense SDF represents our take on American-manga. The stories will feature plenty of action, character driven drama, and romance when applicable. While we would love young boys (shonen) to pick up SDF, we leave the door open for all ages, male and female, to give the book a try.

2. WHY A DOUBLE FEATURE?

The double feature is historically the epitome of value. In SDF you get two full length stories for an extremely reasonable price, especially in today’s market. Also, the characters involved in SDF’s initial run were, creatively, joined at the hip from conception. The main protagonists, though having never met, are natural enemies, a fact that will bare itself out in time. This lays the ground work for what will become one of the more memorable superhero rivalries in comic history.

3. WHO ARE THE CREATORS?

SDF is the brain child of Jose Loeri and Timothy “Timmy” Reaper. Jose will write Lightning Rod: Defender of Crimson!, while Timothy writes Brooklyn Blur. They are supported by the art team of Robert Richardson (Lightning Rod) and Jorge Correa Jr. (Brooklyn Blur) respectively. Full creator profiles can be found on the Graphic Illusions Comics website.

4. WHAT ARE LIGHTNING ROD/BROOKLYN BLUR ABOUT?

Lightning Rod: Is the bizarre coming of age story of a boy named Rodney Lake. Born in the city of Crimson, Maryland, Rodney gained fantastic powers on a stone cold fluke, and uses them to defend his beloved city from the forces of evil, up to and including Crimson’s “evil” Mayor, A.H. Fury. Lovers of absurdist comedy and superhero action will enjoy this tale of a neurotic high school student’s rise from self imposed obscurity to becoming his city’s greatest champion.

Brooklyn Blur: Brooklyn Blur follows the mile-a-minute life of comic book artist Daniela Haskins as she juggles her career and family life with the trials of her alter ego, The Brooklyn Blur. High paced action and humor combine with themes of loyalty and responsibility to paint the picture of a young woman haunted by her past but always looking hopefully towards the future.

5. HOW DOES SDF FIT INTO THE SECOND WAVE UNIVERSE?

The INTREPID: HEROES AND VILLAINS story arc is designed to lay out the SWU in broad strokes. Through Lightning Rod™ and Brooklyn Blur™, readers will see the day-to-day aspect of the SWU. Despite the heavy themes and tension permeating Intrepid, people do live normal lives in the SWU. True, in the SWU, superheroes have been banned for over 30 years. However, that doesn’t mean the world is devoid of heroic figures. All stories take place in the same continuity but remain independent of each other and can be enjoyed on their own merits.
